October 21, 2011 – Former Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi was killed following his capture outside his hometown of Sirte by NTC forces following a NATO airstrike, and a brief chase.
Gaddafi, and a handful of his close advisers narrowly escaped death during the airstrike only to found hiding in a drainage ditch nearby, dragged from his hiding spot, and murdered shortly afterwards. At least five members of his team were killed on the spot, one completely decapitated.
